WHAT IS IT?
Quick ‘n Dirty Wednesday Summer Series – A simple, affordable and local weeknight MTB race series designed to keep seasoned racers in shape and introduce new enthusiasts to mountain bike racing. Watch this quick video to get a better idea.
WHEN IS IT?
Five dates all on Wednesday evenings – May 8, 15 and 29 – June 12 & 26. NOTE: The first two races are back-to-back, every race thereafter is every other week. Registration opens at 4PM, course pre-riding is open at 5PM and racing begins at 6PM. All racing is done by about 7PM and results/awards will be done quickly after. There’s a reason why we call it Quick ‘n Dirty. We wanna get you out racing and get you home so you don’t get in trouble with your spouse!
WHERE IS IT?
Bernardo Bay Natural Area of Lake Hodges at the San Dieguito River Park. The start/finish is right next to the Rancho Bernardo Community Park. PLEASE NOTE: There will be NO PARKING in the Rancho Bernardo Community Park. Parking will be along the street and on the dirt along West Bernardo Drive. Here’s a map:
HOW MUCH IS IT?
$30 per race. $25 for the Fast (beginner) class. NO pre-reg. NO late fees. Just show up and race!
WHY ARE YOU DOING IT?
These days it seems mountain bike racing is getting all too complicated and expensive. We long for the old days where racing was simple and relatively inexpensive….or to use the parlance of our times…quick and dirty. So we put together a five race weeknight series to keep people amped up for the racing season while offering a fun course that people of all skill and experience levels can enjoy.
Additionally, our focus is on attracting local sponsors, and encouraging them to actually come out to the event and participate. Q ‘n D is all about bringing the San Diego mountain bike community together! And of course we invite all mountain bikers from everywhere to come experience the great riding in North County San Diego.
We also want to raise awareness about the San Dieguito River Park and all the amazing trails we have access to. Special thanks goes out to SDRP Senior Ranger and fellow mountain biker David Hekel for helping make Quick ‘n Dirty happen! A portion of the proceeds from the Q ‘n D will go to the SDRP trails fund to help keep the trails we ride in primo condition. We will also be having a display at the event showing how you can get involved and give back to the trails by volunteering your muscle and sweat.

WHAT’S THE COURSE LIKE?
The course is roughly a 3.5 mile loop around the south shore area of Lake Hodges. There will be three different courses we use to mix things up and keep racing interesting. Each course has a terrific mix of fast, flowy singletrack, technical rocky sections, a few punchy climbs and incredible views of the lake.
Here are Strava links to each course (note course #2 does not include Hurl Hill, which the Experts and Masochists do).
Course #1
Course #2
Course #3 This is a new course going in reverse direction of the other two.
WHAT ARE THE CLASSES?
Because this is the Quick ‘n Dirty, we are keeping it simple with creative names. There will be a mass start with staggered start times of 1 minute intervals between the main classes. Everyone will go off starting at 6PM. Laps will depend on which course we are running. Number of laps will be announced THE DAY OF EACH RACE, so be sure to pay attention! Here are the classes:

WHAT’S MY REWARD FOR PAIN AND SUFFERING?
Quick ‘n Dirty will handsomely reward all podium finishers with lots of swag courtesy of our long list of generous sponsors. Smith Optics and SPY Optic will be providing stylish eyewear, Shimano will be providing components, hydration packs and neutral support, Giant and Haro are kicking in product and maybe a few bikes(!), Hammer Nutrition will be providing swag bags and energy-enriched product, Amigo Printing is providing t-shirts, Squadra will be providing jerseys for the King and Queen of Quick ‘n Dirty, JayBird is kicking in some killer headphones, Troy Lee Designs will be providing their iconically cool apparel and Bicycle Injury Lawyer Richard Duquette of911Law.com is providing financial support.
We’ve also got a lot of local bike shops pitching in. Performance Bicycle is kicking in a bunch of killer swag, Bike Bling will be providing gift certificates,Velo Hangar bike shop is kicking in some cash and swag ,the Trek Bicycle Superstore will be out there with swag and their entire fleet of 2013 Trek mountain bikes. Cal Coast Bicycles and Bicycle Warehouse will be helping out too! Oh, and did we mention BEER prizes will be provided thanks to Stone Brewing.
IS THERE AN OVERALL SERIES WINNER?
You bet there is! For each race, whatever place you get is the number of points you get. Whoever has the lowest number of points at the end of the three races wins the overall. We will take your best FOUR races, so you don’t necessarily have to do all five races to win the overall.
VOLUNTEERS!
If you aren’t planning on racing or might have a friend or family member who would like to come and help out, please let us know! We want to get the entire community involved with Q ‘n D, and also want to make the event fun, convenient and SAFE for everyone. One of the most important responsibilities of volunteers will be course marshaling and informing hikers and other riders that the trail is temporarily closed for the race. So if you’d like to help, please drop a line to kurt at carbonframerepair dot com (spelled out to avoid spam robots from hammering my email address).
ARE YOU GUYS ON FACEKOOK?
You bet. Tell your friends! – www.facebook.com/quickndirtyMTB
